Happy Sunday Cheeleaders! Today I am going to share with you possibly the second most exciting thing about my relaunch (next to becoming self hosted of course) and that is how I got my marble background for flatlay photos without spending a lot of money!
What you will need: Scissors, self-adhesive film and a flat cardboard box (roughly the width of the self-adhesive film – I upcycled the box that my laptop came in).
Self-adhesive film: D-C-Fix Original Marmi Deco Self-Adhesive Film Grey 45cm x 2m 346- 0306 – I bought mine from Wilko for £4. There is another one for £6 which is wider but the marble is darker and looked more faux ad you could see pixels in the print.
The self-adhesive film has guidelines on the reverse side that you peel off so you can cut to the length that you want accurately.
Application: This is the hardest part, I tried the method of peeling back a little of the film and smoothing it on slowly but I started to notice crinkle lines so I went brave, ripped off the backing and tried to place it in one go (this stuff sticks to itself quicker than cling film) which I managed to position on the second attempt, I would suggest using the bottom line of your flat surface as a application guide. Once the film was smoothed on I noticed that there were little bubbles, but I left them alone and they settled down after a couple of hours.
All in all I am super happy that I thought of this hack as it gave me a really inexpensive background that makes my flat lays look 100 times better than just resting my products on a sheet of linen and hoping for the best.
